Following its bulletins of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has further indicated that it’ll rely fairly heavily on business to ship on the major challenges confronted by our economies and societies in Europe. This is especially the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and global competitiveness, as properly as the need to overcome the disaster provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is largely constructing on the potential of European business to design and produce the building blocks of the dual green and digital transition. At the identical time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that doesn’t always assist the liberty and adaptability needed for firms to develop and compete globally.
The European expertise industries, and in particular our pumps, compressors, faucets and valves sectors, have for a long time thought of the enhancement of their global competitiveness inside the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of energy effectivity and ecolabel laws. In parallel, digitalisation has offered elevated alternatives and brought new challenges, including debates on the suitable regulatory level (sharing of commercial knowledge, synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce international competitors, require that public authorities and business in the EU work more and more extra carefully to design and deploy strategies that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This would be the topic of the preliminary debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which is able to convey together key policy makers from the three EU coverage establishments in control of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements loved, and challenges nonetheless confronted, by these three key sectors of business.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory landscape across Europe, and certainly the entire world, becomes ever more complicated, the burden on business solely will increase. It due to this fact falls to sector specific commerce organisations, similar to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to identify and advise on these technical and policy points most related to their respective sectors. In our explicit area, that relates, after all, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump associated gear – a huge and important subset of trade, given the width and breadth of pump applications.
Against this backdrop, one of many primary considerations when determining the core themes for the joint convention was to keep up a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to spotlight how, along with the significance for corporations to address technical features impacting their daily business operations, they contemplate the optimistic position of trade in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all the periods may have a technical theme matching the most applicable UN SDG, and with illustration from the European Commission along with technical consultants from industry and/or analysis institutes, they’ll each be reflective of the current legislative terrain, as it relates to pumps and pumping techniques within the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of supplies and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative panorama throughout Europe is changing into increasingly complicated, and trade, in all its guises, must be conscious and prepared for what is coming. By engaging with these trade organisations that symbolize your greatest pursuits, you’ll be able to maintain abreast of all the compliance developments as they have an effect on your business and the areas during which you use.
