Amarinth supplies API 610 pumps for the West Qurna-2 expansion challenge in Iraq

Amarinth has delivered two separate orders of API 610 pumps, together value £1.2 million, for the West Qurna-2 enlargement project in Iraq.

West Qurna-2, located approximately 65 km north-west of the seaport town of Basra, is one of the world’s greatest onshore oilfields. The expansion challenge is expected to increase the oilfield’s production capacity from the present 400,000 barrels oil per day (bpd) to 480,000 bpd, with a goal to attain a complete production capability of 800,000 bpd by 2025.
The first order, from Cannon Artes, was for seven tremendous duplex API 610 OH1 pumps. The bespoke designed pumps are for a low shear utility and required specialist Plan 53B seal assist techniques incorporating air cooled seals and stainless-steel accumulators. All electrical gadgets were IECEx certified for use in an ATEX Zone 2 hazardous space. Despite the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic during the design and manufacture, delivery was achieved within the required time of just 32-weeks from order.
The second order, from SICIM, was for 3 tremendous duplex API 610 OH3 vertical in-line pumps for produced water therapy. The giant pumps had impellers of over 500mm diameter and the casings, that weigh 1.5 tonnes, had been forged in a foundry in the UK.
