Orders for dual-fuel LNG vessels broke all information in 2021 with a complete of 240 ships globally. That is more than the earlier four years mixed. And progress seems set to proceed unabated in 2022.
According to information from classification society DNV, orders for 56 dual-fuel LNG vessels have been placed in January and February.This change in demand has created quite a buzz at Svanehøj. The Danish marine pump specialist quadrupled sales of its patented deepwell gasoline pumps in 2021, and there are many indications that gross sales might improve even further in 2022.
Svanehøj has just secured an order for fuel pump techniques for 15 dual-fuel LNG container vessels (7,000 TEU), that are to be constructed at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding. The total of 30 deepwell fuel pumps might be delivered from August 2022 to January 2024. digital pressure gauge is among Svanehøj’s largest regarding LNG fuel to date. It is the second time within the last year that this buyer has chosen Svanehøj because the provider of LNG gas pump systems. In July 2021, they signed a contract for deepwell pumps for 10 dual-fuel LNG container vessels (15,000 TEU).
“Until a few years in the past, the use of LNG as a marine gas was restricted to LNG carriers and smaller ships. But we are actually seeing a sharp increase in gasoline pump orders for deep sea vessels similar to container ships and automotive carriers. We were chosen because the provider of fuel pump techniques for over 50% of the dual-fuel LNG container vessels ordered globally in 2020-21. Large investment in lean manufacturing and new gear
To help the green transition of the maritime trade, Svanehøj is at present investing greater than DKK 10 million in upgrading its production facilities in Denmark. A new manufacturing unit layout with manufacturing cells and robotics will help Svanehøj’s ambitious growth strategy and cut back lead times for all products.
“We have made a strategic choice to implement lean manufacturing. By rethinking our processes, we expect to extend productiveness and capacity by up to 50%,” says Mikkel Bülow Bundgaard Sørensen, Lean Specialist, Svanehøj.
Svanehøj has entered 2022 with a model new strategy and a goal of doubling its turnover to DKK 1 billion ($152 million) by the top of 2026. In addition to gasoline pumps for LNG, LPG, and carbon-neutral fuels, Svanehøj sees great potential in developing pump options for the infrastructure to be constructed around Power-to-X and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
